Digital camera reviews of Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition

Digital camera Review: Good Product, Great Price
Summary: 4 Stars

This remote is great for what it was intended to do. The buttons are handy and plentiful, simple and intuitive. I love the mouse feature, though it can be slow. The max distance that this is effective at when the remote is pointed directly at the sensor with nothing blocking it would be 30 feet. It would be nice if some of the buttons were programmable since there are so many.

I teach using this remote and while it's bulky and doesn't have amazing range, compared to other products with similar features (i.e. professional presenters), you will probably not find one close to this price. For that reason, I highly recommend this remote.

Digital camera Review: Good but not great!
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this MCE remote with the hopes of using it as an IR receiver for the Windows Media Center. This is not the case. DO NOT BUY this remote if you want an IR remote that will control your cable box (set-top box). Other than that the device does what it says. No other issues to report.

Digital camera Review: Good remote, takes some tweaking for use with logitech universal remote
Summary: 4 Stars

So I bought this remote with the intent of only using it's IR receiver and programming my Harmony one to control Windows 7 Media Center 64 bit. I found out, however, that the remote isn't in logitech's remote database, and also doesn't seem to use the generic microsoft codes that most remotes use. I therefore had to manually "teach" the harmony my remote's codes in RAW format. The problem with this is that this method caused significant lag and delay that I couldn't fix with inter-device and inter-key delays/repeats in Logitech's manual setup. After an afternoon on the phone with logitech level 2 support, I was finally able to remove the lag/delay and get my remote functioning properly. If one is planning on using this remote and included IR receiver together as intended, I would definitely recommend it. It works very well with WMC, and I haven't found anything wrong with it. It is quick and responsive, and all commands work properly. I'm mainly writing this review for others who were contemplating this purchase for the IR receiver to be used with their Harmony/universal remote. The lag/delay issue can be overcome, but it's going to take a call to logitech level 2 support to correct. For those who are buying this with the intent on using the remote and supplied IR receiver with WMC, I would whole-heartedly recommend it.

Digital camera Review: Great MC Remote at a Great Price
Summary: 5 Stars

Works great with Windows 7. Really easy to install and to use. Works with Boxee too, so just use the Boxee plugin for MCE to switch back and forth. Great price too.

Digital camera Review: Great Mediacenter Remote for the Price!
Summary: 4 Stars

Great HTPC remote for the money. I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this remote, but I was very surprised to see the quality and functionality of this remote when I received it. Installation was very simple on Windows 7. Plug it in to the back of my PC, sit back, and enjoy my media. If you are looking for a decent remote that won't set you back $50+, go with this remote. You will not be disappointed.

PROS:
-Easy Installation
-Cheap, but does not sacrifice quality
-Basic Windows Media Center Functionality + more
-Mouse functionality that allows you to control the mouse with ease.

CONS:
-Missing a few buttons I would have liked to see, including a closed caption and aspect ratio buttons.
-IR receiver that comes with the remote is not visually appealing
-LED on IR receiver can be a little bright when a button on the remote is pressed.
-The Media Center button is just a green button, rather than the Windows flag button we are all used to
