Digital camera reviews of XFX PVT44AWANG GeForce 6200 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card (VGA/DVI/S-Video)

Digital camera Review: A Worthwhile Upgrade on a Tight Budget
Summary: 5 Stars

This video card works great. It was easy to install, hardware and software. I can tell that my Windows system is running much faster and more efficiently thanks to this new card. I was a bit concerned about power issues (I think my desktop's PSU is rated at 180-200 watts), but so far I have had no power issues. If you have an old AGP desktop that's running sluggish, this card is a good upgrade on a tight budget. And because the card uses an nvidia chipset, it is supported more in the Linux world than other brands such as ATI. I have not played any graphics-intensive games yet, but for the cost, you get plenty of bang for your buck.

Digital camera Review: A good card for an aging P4
Summary: 4 Stars

I own an aging Dell Optiplex GX270. It's a small form factor desktop with a 210 watt power supply. The specifications for this card recommend a 300 to 400 watt power supply, but it runs fine in this machine so far. The most demanding thing I ask it to do is play World of Warcraft, and it does that fine. As far as for how much headroom the power supply still has, this system has also been upgraded to 4 GB of RAM, which is the most it will accept. (Incidentally, Windows XP Pro SP3 will only recognize ~3.25 GB of it.)

The 'best together' bracket kit that Amazon has listed with this card IS INCOMPATIBLE. Do not buy it with this card.

Also, a warning for anyone that owns this specific system and that is upgrading it. It has one Gen I SATA port on the motherboard. But because of extremely limited space, the expansion card case will interfere with a normal SATA connector on the hard drive. To overcome this, a SATA cable with a right-angle connector where it plugs into the hard drive is required, or you may find yourself having to use a Dremel tool to hack a chunk out of the expansion card case.

Digital camera Review: A wonderful solution

If you are looking for a much needed Vid Card update for an out of date board this is it. I have an old Sony Vaio and needed a GeForce 6200+ card for a game i purchased. Problem was I have an AGP 4x slot and couldn't find a card to spec.'s to work until this one. I upgraded to this from a GeForce 5200 and it is a world of difference. As I said I have a Sony Vaio, it's a PCV-RX860 with a ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4S533VX Motherboard. If you are upgrading your vid card, it's almost necessary to upgrade your PSU (Power Supply Unit) if it is below 300 Watts as mine was. With the design of this Vid Card it doesn't matter how close your AGP slot is to your PSU because, the vid card is slotted out where a PSU may extend beyond the AGP slot. This was a great find, and a great buy for the price. Not to mention if I upgrade my system further I can carry this card over to an AGP 8x. Also if you go to the XFX website that is very helpful (unlike others) they have the links to upgrade the drivers and even overclock your new vidcard. If your looking at this card, stop looking and put it in your cart, I'm glad I did.

Digital camera Review: A worthwhile upgrade from the Geforce4
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a Geforce 4 video card in my computer that I purchased 5 years ago an made several upgrades to. Most recently, I upgraded the memory to 768 from 512, upgraded the processor to a 1.4 Pentium III, and upgraded the Video Card from a Geforce 4 420 to the this card.

Installation went flawlessly under XP SP2. First, I downloaded the latest drivers for this card from the Nvidia website. I uninstalled the previous Nvidia drivers and utilities, rebooted the computer, shut it down, removed the old card, installed the new card, then ran the installation program for the drivers I had downloaded from the Nvidia website.

This new card is fast and so far, stable and reliable. I've never had so easy an installation with a graphics card before.

Digital camera Review: Absolutely amazing card for the price!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, first of all, this is not the latest and greatest card on the market. If that's what you are looking for, this is probably not the right card for you. But if you are looking to upgrade your older AGP compatible mainboard with some extra accelerated video memory, this card is simply amazing.

At first, I was thrown off by the low price, I wondered how well the card would work. But the Amazon reviews swayed me (along with a rebate) and I purchased the card. Everything about this card impressed me. I plugged the card in, booted right into Windows XP with no safe mode issues. I put the driver CD in, installed the software, the system rebooted, and it worked. I have had a lot of experience with add-on cards, and this was by far the easiest PlugNPlay experience I have ever had. I almost couldn't believe it was that simple.

Photoshop runs 10 times better with this card (seriously), and when I put in SimCity 4 (an older game admittedly, but still), I couldn't believe how I'd gotten along without this card. I maxed out the resolution, all texture settings, and the game ran without so much as a hiccup. This card supports Direct X 9 and the Shader 3.0 model, so it will run almost every game on the market. Not bad when you can plug it into a 3-year-old machine, like mine.

Also, for anyone wondering whether or not you can use this 8x AGP card in your older 4x AGP slot, you CAN. The video software will automatically read your system information and set the card to the appropriate BUS speed.

So again, if you are a hardcore gamer who wants the latest and greatest games coming up, you might want to consider a card with faster acceleration and more memory. If you are looking for an inexpensive upgrade for an older machine that will allow you to run almost any game on the market right now, this card cannot be beat.
