this isn't a BAD product, but it is still a rip-off There simply isn't enough materials/workmanship that went into this to justify the cost - it's a square of plastic with rubber pads on top - that's it, no more, no less. I've purchased 3 of these X-pads for the laptop users in my family including myself. It fits my 15.6" laptop, my wife's 13" MacBook, and my dad's 14-inch laptop. We've had them all for over 2 years now and they're still going strong. I definitely notice the difference in performance when I'm using the X-pad in comparison to not using it. No loud fan noise, better comfort and non-slip grip. I can open and close my laptop with one hand using the X-pad vs. the regular 2-handed operation I have to go through otherwise. All in all, it's been a great value for the money. I don't think it's as simple as it should be to buy a product to keep my MacBook from burning my lap when I use it on the couch. There are a lot of products with fans and USB hubs and lights and all manner of doohickeys--all of which seem too complicated. Other products are rather simple, but are little better than using a book or a small piece of wood, in that the laptop's heat eventually makes them hot, too. I found that the xPad, with its simple X design on top, keeps most of the laptop out of contact with the bottom of the pad, and hence, keeps my lap pretty cool. The laptop does not slip off the top of it (a big plus). On the downside, the edges of the base are, as many reviewers said, not rounded, so they can dig into you. I purchased this product to keep my laptop cool as I know laptop's are famous from overheating and the fans running all the time as all the components are in a very confined area. Since using XPAD my fan hardly kicks on. It simply lets it breathe with the air that can circulate from underneath. The design and size are just what we laptop owners need. It's lightweight and comfortable. The one down side for me is my old Dell Latitude's fan is in the corner, being obscured by the device. If I shift it a bit, it's fine. It's definitely a good investment for the money.
