The X-Pad is a decent piece of equipment, doing a good job of keeping my laptop from getting too hot. My only issue with it is the lack of padding on the underside. I've owned the original X-Pad for over three years now, and I still use it every day, all day with my laptop. I even bought several for friends and family members to use. It does a great job dissipating the heat, it's comfortable and lightweight, and obviously it's durable given the length of time I've used it (and the abuse it's taken). It's travelled well with me on numerous trips for both business and pleasure.
One odd thing I noticed on the negative review voted most helpful on this site is the reference to sharp edges. Perhaps the model that reviewer owned was older than the one I bought several years ago, but I have my XPad on my lap as I type this, and there are NO sharp edges anywhere.
The XPad is far more unobtrusive than the products you'll find at most office supply or department stores for laptop cooling, and I wouldn't trade mine for any other product. For a small investment, you'll reap the benefits many times over!

Lightweight and thin enough to travel alongside my Acer Travelmate 8104, the Xpad works just as promised. With its simple (yet very attractive) design, I really was not sure what to expect. But, it really does keep my lap totally cool! When placed directly on a couch or bed with the laptop on it, the exhaust from the fan is also noticiably cooler. It's very sturdy, yet very light. This is a great product, and certainly worth the regular price of $29.95 - but a true bargain at $19.95 (far less than all of the competing products I looked at)! Well worth while - a must have bargain. I have used one of these constantly for four years. Stops heat reaching my lap from my Sony Vaio. No problems with it or laptop slipping due to rubber pads. I always take the X-pad when travelling. It is light and slim. Apart from some wear of the colour on the corners it is still as good as new. Particularly useful in hot climates. I visit India regularly. A really well designed bargain. My son, duaghter-in-law and niece have also have X-pads and are equally pleased with them.
An essential item for me until computer manufacturers build such heat shields into their laptops and avoid airvents on the underside.

My Acer laptop's battery lasted about 12 months before it couldn't hold a full charge any longer than about 45 minutes. I guess having the laptop on my lap didn't help the machine to keep cool what with the cooling vents being blocked by my legs and the resulting heat build-up probably did the battery no favours. Looking at the various cooling solutions, like bases with USB-power cooling fans, they all seemed expensive, bulky and over the top; when I came across the X-pad, it was obviously a simple solution, cheap and lightweight. Since buying one along with a new battery, my laptop stays cool and after more than a year the battery lasts at least a few hours of moderate use.
I'd definitely get another x-pad should I ever get another laptop. Highly recommended as a cheap, easy and very effective solution to keeping your laptop cool whilst on your lap.
