Digital camera reviews of Xpad (Non-slip Laptop Cooler and Heatshield)Digital camera Review: Cools well, USB is not straight Summary: 4 Stars
First of all, I'm very happy with how well this cools the notebook and how quiet it runs.
My only complaint is that the USB is not straight. I appreciate their intention to provide a USB hub to replace the one you're using, but I don't like that the USB now has a sideways pointing wire coming from it. On my Dell XPS, I can only use the USB port on the right side of my notebook, which means that I have to use this pad backwards. Instead of the air flowing out the back of the device, the warm air flows towards me. This may be nice in the winter, but it was 95 degrees here today.
I wish they would provide 2 cords with the device- the one currently provided and a straight one without a USB hub.
Digital camera Review: Cools without noise Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the xpad when I bought my new 17" HP laptop because a friend's laptop literally fried from being on too long. She had to put her laptop in the frig periodically to cool it down.
I do not use this product on my lap so I cannot review that part.
The xpad raises the laptop just enough to allow easier wrist movement on the keyboard which I like. It cools passively so there are no noisey fans going while your laptop is on. It also won't eat up battery power.
I have been very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone.
Digital camera Review: Couldn't Do Without It Summary: 5 Stars
Previous to purchasing this Xpad I had an HP laptop. It was my first laptop and my legs used to get so hot when I was on it a long time, I used to put a blanket on my lap first. I didn't know about the dangers to my laptop of the heat. Finally my laptop burnt out due to the heat. I bought another laptop and decided to see what I could do to prevent this happening again. When I googled the info, the info for this Xpad came up. Once I did my research on all items like this, I chose this due to reviews, price, etc. I have now been using this for over 2 years and it has been the perfect solution to the problem. It is easy for me to use and it definitely takes care of any heat problems. I wish so much that I had known about this with my previous laptop, I think I would still have it had I known.
Digital camera Review: Definitely works as promised, but a few considerations... Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using the XPad for about two weeks and have to say that overall it does a pretty good job. I mostly use my laptop propped in my lap in bed,and the fans on my Dell don't go off nearly as often when I'm using the Xpad. I no longer feel the heat from my laptop burning into my skin, and I can't say I really miss it all that much. Furthermore, I pretty much leave it permanently on the Xpad even when I'm not using it, thus dispelling my previous irrational fear that my laptop would overheat and set my sheets on fire if I left it unattended. The fact that it runs without needing to plug in to a USB port and without noisy fans of any sort is a huge plus.
Some things to note: I own a Dell Inspiron 1505 with a 15.4' screen. The Xpad fits it perfectly from front to back, however the computer is larger by about 1 cm on each side. This doesn't really seem to affect the performance at all. If I use my laptop for hours at a time, the rubberized raised surfaces on the Xpad tend to get pretty hot, though I think this is unavoidable when running your computer for so long in such close proximity to another surface. It's going to heat up something unless you can somehow use it suspended in air.
The other thing is that the actual physical presence of the Xpad under my laptop took some getting used to. In some places, it adds about an inch to how my laptop used to sit, and when I first started using it I found that I had to slightly adjust the position of my hands, particularly when typing. I stopped noticing this after a few days of use, and have actually come to appreciate the stable surface that the Xpad creates--almost like a mini-desk. I also feel that the Xpad also adds a certain amount of heft that takes some getting used to, though I'm sure this is very person-specific (think about it this way: a laptop alone might be about 6 lbs., so even a pound of extra weight is about a 15% increase. Some people can probably feel that, others, not so much).
Overall, definitely recommended, but I'd give it a few days to get used to the feeling of having your laptop sitting on a new surface. And one final note, even with the price of $19.95, it doesn't ship from amazon, so you'll end up paying about $27 total.
Digital camera Review: Disappointed, you get what you pay for Summary: 1 Stars
After reading all the positive reviews for this product, I decided to give this product a try. Unfortunately, I tried using if for a week and my Toshiba laptop still remains hot, actually it feels as if it got even hotter when I use the Xpad. At least, it was only a $20 loss, I'll probably try to sell the product on eBay.
