Digital camera reviews of Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo RecorderDigital camera Review: Goodness in a small package Summary: 5 StarsOK, so I'm not a real techie. And I don't know anything much about all the really technical things that the Zoom H2 does. I just needed something small and maneuverable to grab some interviews at music festivals, and to record small groups of people playing.
So far, the Zoom is a great choice. It does what I want, and with the advantage of the SD card holding the recorded files, I can slap the card into my card reader on my desktop, and start editing immediately.
One of the main features that interested me in the H2 was the speakers in front and back. My plan was to sit with my interview-ee at a small table, with the H2 in between us. It worked well - though, outdoors at this festival, there were high levels of background noise, and that, of course, was picked up as well. But that was to be expected.
I'm going to have to experiment with it to see what settings and positions work for me.
As far as Amazon, I had the thing in just two days. Service was especially fast. Bravo.
Digital camera Review: Great unit Summary: 5 StarsWell I'm new to recording, this unit was priced right east to use and produces amazing quality. I've had it for about a month now, and have recorder all sorts of sound effects, after a few test runs I was able to easily figure out how everything worked and was creating in no time. The other reviews that list it as potentially fragile, I don't have a problem with the build of the recorder, I work in construction and have used it to record quite a few on the job sounds, on roofs, near cement mixers, and so on. I wouldn't go throwing it at the wall but I Like the price better than I'd like an unnecessary metal body.
My only gripe is having to push the record button twice, the first to monitor levels then the second to actually record, while I like the monitor feature I have missed a few sounds by forgetting to push the button twice.
Digital camera Review: Easy to use, small, good features for price Summary: 4 StarsI bought this device to add ambient (environment) sound to my panoramic photographs and it is working well for me. It is much smaller than the small video camera that I used to carry with me to capture sound. It has many features for the price. Ensure that you adjust the microphone gain after looking at the audio levels on the display and that you check whether you are using the 120 degree mic in the back for ambient or the 90 degree microphone on the front. I have other recording devices that are smaller, but this device was designed with the intent of getting good audio.
Digital camera Review: Excellent little device Summary: 4 StarsI bought this unit for podcasting. However, when I discovered that it can be used as a USB mic, I decided to set it up for Skype calls as well. The sound quality is fantastic.
The only criticism I have is that you have to reconnect it - via it menu - each time you start your computer. It only takes two button pushes, but sometimes I forget, and wonder why Skype isn't hearing me.
Digital camera Review: Nice thing Summary: 3 StarsThis is a pretty good thing. Put a big chip in it for best utility. No speakers. gotta use earphones. Tiny letters on the visual display panel, not so good for 60 y.o. + people like me. Put on your glasses. Nice to record the church choir rehearsals. Then just download the file to your computer and email it out to members who can practice with it at home.
