Digital camera Review: A DEVICE THAT LEARNS.

I purchased two of these universal locators, and after reading the reviews, I decided to activate only one at a time to avoid any hassle. That turned out to be a good idea.
The first locator I purchased was from ebay and it was from 2008. The Zoombak website said that you must activate your unit 60 days after purchase so I was afraid that it wouldn't work, but it does just fine.
The first thing I had to do was go to the tools tab on Windows in the upper right hand corner to allow the map to be displayed on my Zoombak account (I believe that Zoombak only works with Windows and Mozilla Firefox but not Safari) I then clicked on Internet Options, Security tab, Custom Settings, enabled the Display Mixed Content (A little over half way down) and sure enough the map popped up.
The second thing I had to do was activate the locator. I set it outside under the open sky and did a search from the Zoombak website.
You have to realize that the satelite now has to search the entire world for the locator. That is when I realized that the system must learn, and when you use it over and over several times the satelite can find it a lot faster. My first two attempts showed up in red letters that the locator could not be found. The third attempt displayed the same red letters but then I realized that the location showed up on the map. All attempts after that have not been a problem. So I felt confident that I could go ahead and activate the second locator.
I purchased the second locator brand new from amazon. It is a 2010 and I've had different problems with it. The locator could not be found for the first four attempts and there was not even a display on the map and the same red letters as before popped up to tell me so. Then on the fifth attempt the words appeared next to the Find Now button that said Software Upgrade In Progress. Those words were still there the next day so I called the company. They told me there was a problem with the satelite and gave me another month of service free. Twenty four hours later the problem was fixed, and after another search, my locator was found but told me it was one mile away from where I had actually put it. A second attempt showed the same thing. The third attempt was right on the money.
After several uses over the next few days I've had no problems with either locator, but I feel that I must use it even if I don't need to so that the satelite can remember. The system gets a little confused if I do a locator search from my front yard or 'Home' where I originally activated it. It does much better finding it from another location such as the grocery store, my dad's house, etc.
Overall you must be patient. The satelite must originally search the entire earth, but when it learns your town, then learns your address it works a lot more effiently!
