Digital camera reviews of Zune Home AV Pack v2Digital camera Review: 4/8 GB Zune Owners Beware. Summary: 2 Stars
Please remember to read the fine print- this only has complete features for the 30 and 80 GB Zunes, but not for the 4/8 GB Zunes.
Granted you can still use the docking station, remote and play your music through your TV (didn't try hooking it up to any other devices), not being able to use video capabilities or even the menu through your tv, really makes it not worth your money (in my opinion) if you have a 4/8 GB Zune.
So, I just wanted to post this review to make it known to any 4/8 GB Zune owners. It may or may not be what you really wanted, I think if you just bought a docking station, and an AV line, you can use it would be about the same.
Digital camera Review: A Must Have For Owners Of More Than One Zune Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a bit split on this personally, I got the v2 dock for free from newegg after ordering my 120gb, but I'll admit its a very 'stripped down' version of what I've seen of the v1 dock. For example the remote is simplified down to basically the click wheel,Back Button, and the Play/Pause button. In my opinion I like this remote better, but some people like individual buttons for each of the functions like the v1 dock has. Also the v1 dock looks to have a nice place to put your remote, the v2 dock does not feature this, nor is the remote magnetic (not an issue for me).
Really the only thing I have a problem with is the fact that the v2 dock integrates the cable, where as in the v1 dock you basically got another USB Cable that you could either plug into the dock or use with just the Zune. The v2 dock your stuck with the usb connected to the dock. On the flip side I'm sure this cut down on costs, and is probably more reliable, but it would have been nice to give users the option to choose.
The v2 version of the dock supports all Zune's currently made by Microsoft, you just gotta pop off the 'faceplate', then 'slide' the dock connector and replace it with the included faceplates mine came preset for a 8gb zune. I've got a 30gb and a 120gb zune, the 30gb has now been allocated to 'dock duty' without its case and connected into my sound system at all times, where as my Zune 120 is my carry personal music player. It was easy to pop off the faceplate and replace it with the 30gb plate, I've also got the 120gb and the 8gb plate should I ever buy/want to use one of those sizes with this dock. It also includes the standard Red/White/Yellow Composite Cables which plug nicely into the dock, you can also pop off the 'back plate' to revel Composite connections (Red Green Blue) make sure to flick the switch to change to Composite video should you choose to use this output method, however cables are NOT included (pick em up online for ~5 bucks).
The included 'travel charger' didn't seem to do the trick for my 120 zune, but that could because my usb cable is a little flaky (I've had it since the Zune 30 launch, didn't see a reason to open the new one in the 120 box I just bought), it seemed to charge the zune up to 80% and just leave it there, its now connected to the dock to provide power out front where I don't have any USB ports in my sound system.
In all for the price I paid (free) I feel I got a heck of a deal, however I feel this is worth about 30~40 Dollars depending on your usage, I myself am using every single component so its a deal for me, however if you're only going to use the travel charger (my original plan until I found my 30gb Zune under my bed!) you might want to look for a cheaper alternative.
Digital camera Review: A cheap way to interface your Zune! Summary: 5 Stars
I hadn't intended on using this to play videos or music through my television, but instead purchased it simply to charge my Zune 80. With that said, ending my reliance on the cable hooked to my computer in lieu of wifi was well worth it.
I'm happy in this aspect, yet even with the component cables, I was surprised the output from the Zune, at least for navigating the interface, is exactly the same resolution on the TV as you see on the device's screen. This is not a con of the dock, but just the way the Zune functions. Aside from this, videos in 480i look great.
As far as the dock itself, sound quality is good, the quality of the dock is good, and everything seems to work fine. I was a bit concerned with the loose fit of the Zune in the dock, but it seems to be causing no issues, and the device never loses its connection.
Digital camera Review: A great product ! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a 80 MB Zune, this product plugs right into my stereo system and allows me to listen to my zune using my stereo and it also charges my zune as well. I am very pleased.
I did not have any problems with the adapter base as it is all straight forward and works as advertised. I would recommend this product to anyone.
I have not used the video part or the wireless feature as of yet.
I really purchased it to do just what it is currently doing.
Digital camera Review: A must-have accessory for the Zune Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned my Zune for some time, and only recently purchased the home A/V dock. It functions as a charging base, a connectivity base for A/V data, and contains the IR transceiver for the remote control. This unit is well-designed, and really transforms the Zune from a portable media player into an accessory for your home stereo/home theater system. I highly recommend it.
