Digital camera reviews of Zune Premium Earphones

Digital camera Review: Good buy if you can get them cheap
Summary: 3 Stars

Being a DAP junkie I found a good deal for a Zune 30gb player and decided to give it a try. So far pretty good but the included headphones as usual suck. I usually use my V-moda bass frequency earbuds with my Ipod,Zune and Iphone. But I wanted to try something new, so I decided on the Zune Premium earbuds. Not wanting to pay the $40.00 the Big Box stores were selling them for I found them for about $20.00 online new.

First, the carry case is very cool. It's about time somebody made a decent carrying case for headphones (Shure does a good job I'll admit to). The headphones themselves seem sturdy as any other "mid range" headphones. The cables are a little thin but unless your using these while doing some sort of extreme sporting you should be fine. The 3 earbud sizes that come with them is a nice touch (seems more companies are doing that for the mid to upper range of headphones).

The Sound? Well after about 3 days of burning them in I found that they were pretty decent. Not as good as my V-Modas but I would say just as good as Sony's or Apples "premium" headphones in the $40-$50 range. Good Bass and Mids, decent on the high end. I would say if you can find them cheap like I did then pick them up, but don't pay the

Go Zune

Digital camera Review: Good earbuds, but dont pay much for them
Summary: 3 Stars

I wanted to stick with OEM Zune earbuds when my originals gave out. I was impressed by the sound of the originals and these are good also- They sound good, but I would not call it "premium" sound.

The hardest part is keeping them in place in your ears.... when you put them in, the sound is just right, but if they shift even a little, (and they will) the sound changes from what you started with and you constantly have to adjust the fit/volume. Even with the 3 different rubber pieces, I could not find one that fit right.

Overall, these ARE very good sounding earbuds, but due to the fit problem, I'm still on the market for new earphones, and would not buy this in-ear style earbud from any maker.

The "storage" case is also quite hard to work with, and leaves the cord very zig-zaggy- I prefer the "wind-up" styles that dont bend the cord, but at least this also holds the extra rubber pieces.

Good for the price I paid ($8.99) but dont pay MSRP

Digital camera Review: Good headphones
Summary: 4 Stars

I am not an audiophile, but these appear to be a good set of inexpensive headphones. They stay in my ear comfortably and came with different fitting for different ears. I am happy with the product.

Digital camera Review: Good product but not for me.
Summary: 3 Stars

Yes, the Premium Earphones are better than the standard ones that come with the Zune, and they isolate sound very well once you decide on the appropriate earpiece for them. They have a nice fit and finish like all of the official Zune accessories I've used thus far, and are probably worth the money.

However, after using them for a week I think I'm going back to the regular earbuds for two reasons, well technically three reasons I guess.

1. To me it feels like wearing ear plugs, which I don't much enjoy.

2. The sound isolating design works too well; I can't hear what's going on around me and I sort of think that's a little dangerous.

3. It sounds stupid, but sometimes I only like to have one earbud in at a time, and the design of the standard earbuds lets you place one in your ear and more securely clip the other to the backside of it. The premium ones' magnets grip a little better, but their design makes them easier to knock apart.

Overall an okay product, and that's why it gets three stars.
