Digital camera reviews of iriver AFT 100 Mobile FM TransmitterDigital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I get great reception in my vehicle. I suppose others may vary. Easy to set up. Nice that plugging it in gives it not just voltage, but a mount so that it isn't dangling or sliding around the passenger seat. Only reason I didn't go a '5' is that the backlighting is too bright at night for my tastes.
Digital camera Review: Amazing product! Summary: 5 Stars
I was very skeptical when I heard about this product but decided to give it a try. It's great! I had no trouble finding an open FM station even though I live in a very large city. It's easy to use and the sound quality is excellent. I bought a second one to give as a gift.
Digital camera Review: Amazing transmitter power, but not for quiet music. Summary: 4 Stars
As to the quality of FM Transmitting, this item is second to none. I've never noticed any problem with crosstalk in a metropolitan area. The transmitter is amazing.
There is one caveat to the iRiver transmitter however. If you listen to songs that vary in volume, such as classical or avant garde type stuff, you will find that your iRiver's convenient auto-off feature becomes not-so-convenient. I have found it impossible to enjoy music that is relatively quiet without the iRiver turning off consistently. I even had the input volume high enough to cause distortion when the music reached a more normal volume. For this reason I wouldn't recommend the unit for lovers of quiet music.
If you're into pop/rock/r&b/hip hop where the volume remains at a normal level, this unit is flippin' perfect.
Digital camera Review: Amazingly great reception Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have the Belkin Tunecast and it would barely work in Los Angeles, where I live. I thought it was due to the crowded airwaves and the fact that my car's antenna is in the back. Not so. I finally got the iRiver after my Belkin's batteries exploded in their case. I am so glad I read the excellent reviews on this site and decided to spend a little more to get the best. This transmitter really works! It is incredibly impressive, the difference between the two. The iRiver is good-looking, easy to read, and brings in the best sound quality I've heard for such a device. I have tested it on several channels and it even manages to block out radio stations with strong signals. Highly recommended.
Digital camera Review: An Excellent Transmitter with an Annoying Quirk Summary: 3 Stars
The iriver AFT 100 FM transmitter is excellent but it could use a display that is easier to read in bright light. Unfortunately, it must have a rather steady audio stream to remain turned on. It's easy to set to any desired FM channel and has two buttons that can be set to a couple of frequently used channels.
Occasionally, if the audio stream goes to a very low level for what seems to be a short time, the device will turn itself off. This is a somewhat annoying design quirk, but not quite a deal breaker, as the otherwise excellent features and performance tend to compensate for the annoyance.
I am using the device with a Pioneer GEX XMP3 portable XM receiver, which I can enjoy very much in any vehicle I happen to be using, as well as in its home dock. The Pioneer XM receiver has an internal FM transmitter, but its radio signal level is so limited by FCC regulations that it would be useless on its own as a portable device for automotive use. An external FM transmitter with sufficient output seems to be the best way to get a good signal into a car radio if there is no wired adapter available.
