Digital camera reviews of iriver AFT 100 Mobile FM TransmitterDigital camera Review: An FM transmitter that actually works Summary: 4 Stars
I've tried many other FM transmitters for my MP3 player and had the usual problems of too much static and mediocre sound quality transmission. Others have a complicated system that only work with certain players and not others.
THe iRiver is very simple. The form factor is only slighly bigger than a cigarette lighter with a headphone cord that plugs into any MP3 player. The screen has up and down tuner buttons, including very useful memory presets (3) to save frequencies. The backlit LCD screen clearly shows the transmission frequency.
The transmitter is not limited to only a few frequencies, although it only goes down to 88.1, and lower ones have better transmission. The proof is in the pudding, though, as I was able to transmit continuously with hardly any static in frequency-logged areas such as New York City and Boston. It works well in all the cars I have tried, regardless of the location of the antenna or radio relative to the transmitter. It is powerful enough that you don't need to find a completely empty frequencies, as it effectively cancels them out with its signal.
My only complaint is that the automatic on-off switch that turns on when there is an input from the player and off when disconnected sometimes doesn't work. I have to unplug it and replug it back in. It would have been nice to have a simple toggle on top of it to turn it on and off.
As with all transmitters, it works best if the player's equalizer is set to flat and the volume is ~75% of maximum, with the final volume and settings set on the radio itself.
Digital camera Review: An acceptable solution Summary: 4 Stars
I recently purchased iRiver AFT 100 Mobile FM Transmitter along with Creative Zen Nano 512 MB MP3 Player Black and use it in my car. Easy to use and works as advertised. It is difficult, however, to find an unused FM station here in Philadelphia, even with a full range of settings, there is still static bleed-thru as I drive around, no matter what station you choose. Works great once you get out of town.
Digital camera Review: An actual working FM Transmitter! Summary: 5 Stars
After using multiple different FM Transmitters from different makers, I finally settled on this one. The sound quality is as expected, FM quality. You just plug it into your cigarette lighter in your car and it lights up nicely with a clear display showing the current frequency it is broadcasting at. You can set 3 preset stations and you have a choice of any station between 88 and 107.9. In the Minneapolis/St. Paul area I get great reception. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to hook up their mp3 player to their car.
Digital camera Review: An inexpensive alternative to car MP3 player Summary: 4 Stars
I was looking to have the factory CD/radio player in my car replaced with one that can play MP3, which could have cost me at least $200. Before I pulled the triggar, one of my coworkers made me aware of this little transmitter so I bought one from Amazon, connected it with my Sandisk MP3 player, turned on my car FM radio, sync up the radio frequency, and within a second the MP3 music streamed out of the old radio player! This is really amazing, and the sound quality is good (no noticable hiss sound) as long as I am not driving in downtown where radio frequencies are badly interfered. Overall, this is a good investment for me, and I will buy another one to put in my wife's car.
Digital camera Review: As Simple as It Gets-- Works Perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
Bravo to iRiver for developing such a nifty mobile FM transmitter. Far better than the Belkin. In comparison, it has a much stronger signal, the sound is clear and forceful, and it bears a smaller, simpler profile.
Note: This transmitter does not work well with the T-Mobile SDA phone. I think the problem is more with the phone than anything else, owing to its 3/32" input and the need for an adapter.
The good news is it makes listening through my car's stock stereo, with my iRiver T-30 mp3 player, a breeze.
