Digital camera reviews of latte chumbyDigital camera Review: Chumby = Alarm Clock + Digital Photo Frame + Internet Widgets Summary: 5 Stars
I've had it for 6 months and it's a major step up from a traditional alarm clock.
Pros:
* Affordable (<$200)
* Serves as as a charger for all my USB based devices (2 ports in back): iPhone, Jawbone, Blackberry, etc.
* Lots of customization.
* PandaCam!
Cons:
* Doesn't work as well disconnected. So not the best traveling alarm clock
Digital camera Review: Don't Hesitate To Buy A Chumby! Summary: 5 Stars
I was hesitant to buy a Chumby because the price was much higher than your usual alarm clock. Finally, I had trouble with the alarm on my clock and viewed David Pogue's video of the Chumby once again. I bought one. I have the latte color and I think it's beautiful, but.... what if I should have bought the black? Ahhh! Actually I think I made the right choice. I set the alarm twice in the mornings, one to wake up and one to get up. In between I lay in bed looking at the latest news headlines, weather and assorted other choices. It's a wonder! I don't regret buying my Chumby at all. It's all mine!
Digital camera Review: Great product with amazing potential Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product with lots of potential. Its being constantly developed, there are hundreds of widgets for it, it does a great job streaming from shoutcast and other sources for internet radios, its sound is impressive for the fairly small speakers and it has a great feel thanks to its soft leather casing. Really recommended.
Digital camera Review: Love my Chumby! Summary: 5 Stars
Really, Chumby doesn't sound that interesting on paper. A clock radio that can also view pictures? Big deal. The magic lies in the how easily it can be customized, which led to a great selection of user-created "widgets" that can be installed for free. From tracking the stock market to looking at pictures of upside down dogs, and from popping virtual bubble wrap to reading the NY Times, Chumby has widgets you've never realized that you needed.
Even the built-in features are great. My alarm clock is set to wake me up only on weekdays at 6:45 to a spoken version of the local weather report, with a 7-minute snooze and a loud backup alarm after 25 minutes. When the alarm goes off it switches my Chumby to displaying a special "morning" channel with the news of the day and funny pictures. This is, hands-down, the best alarm clock I've ever owned (or even seen).
It's pretty difficult to explain just how great a Chumby is to someone who's never experienced one, so I'll leave it at this: if you've considered getting one, do it.
Digital camera Review: Wonderful tool for ??? Summary: 5 Stars
OK, I bought this because I was bitterly disappointed by my iPod Touch, which cannot receive internet radio (and I bought the iPod specifically for listening to Radio Paradise and NPR). I suppose that allowing the Prince of Darkness's customers to listen to anything other than iTunes must be discouraged. The ritual abuse that Apple customers demand cannot be put at risk! Anyway, the Chumby has no such dark compulsions, and moreover, it has a headphone output, and hooks up quickly and easily to my Klipsch system. Now, this is really liberating - the Chumby receives Radio Paradise and Pandora without a hitch, and in the bargain keeps up a good-natured slide-show of strange widgets (such as a miniature fireplace, weather forecasts, and the sayings of Buddha). Goodbye, possessed and accursed iPod! Hello freedom! Now if I could just figure out what else to do with this bizarre machine...
