I've been using Magic Jack for about 4 months and have had no difficulties at all with it. MJ provides you with a local phone number which is great, you get connected quickly, and the sound quality is reliably good ! I have been using Skype for years, but Skype does have its days. I use my Magic Jack phone when Skype's call quality is lacking; it's a great back-up.
Like Skype, it gives you the luxury of a different phone number if you are doing business from home, but don't want the little ones answering business calls or if you have an older relative in a different state and you want to provide her with a local phone number with which to reach you.
I really like MJ and will renew my service next year.

I purchased the Magic Jack , recieved it rather quickly, very impressed. However found that you must have a PC to download the Mac Beta software program from the Web site to the Magic Jack. Upon doing so we have yet to have this product work on our (Intel Based Mac Mini), you must have a Intel Based Mac according to the Tech Support we spoke with. I do and still no success with this product. They told me to wait 48 hours and they would have someone get back with me with further support before returning the product. it has been 72 Hours and counting and I am still waiting for a resolve to my issue with this product. The individual attempting to assist us from the web site kept repeating herself as to what type of computers we had and asking the same questions over and over again, for one hour. I believe this product is not Mac friendly. If you own a Intel Based Mac be very hesitatant before purchasing this product, and personnally you need to be quite Computer Savey as well. Tried this item for a couple of months on my Mac. Didn't live up to the hype:
1. Poor audio quality.
2. Continuous connection problems.
3. Help is online and very poor.
4. Ultimately would not work at all with no recourse through online help.
Dealing with this outfit is worse than dealing with a used car dealer. Didn't ask for my money back just that they close the account so that no future unauthorized charges could be made (like for long distance and such). "No can do," they said. Who ever heard of an account that couldn't be closed?
Went back to regular phone service with no regrets. There's little magic in the magicjack.

My magicjack is great --- quality as good as landline and so close to free. This phone comes with all the services you could want -- those that the phone company charges $6-$8 monthly for each one. What I love about the voicemail is that every voicemail generates an email and you can listen to your messages on any computer (or of course you can access it from your phone). You can go online and forward your MJ number to another number in the event of a power outage too. I just love this and with my family all over the country it's really great to talk long distance all I want to, with landline quality, free. You can't go wrong here.
